What is the EarthQuake Alert™? The EarthQuake Alert™ is an affordable earthquake detector designed to inform you of potentially dangerous earthquakes which occur in your area.

How does the EarthQuake Alert™ detect earthquakes? The EarthQuake Alert™ uses advanced technology components to detect the P waves of an earthquake which are the first waves released when an earthquake take place.

What are P waves? An earthquake causes vibrations which transmit energy through the earth in the form of waves. P waves or body waves are the first waves produced. These waves are the fastest travelling waves generated by an earthquake and so are the first to arrive at any area. Because the P waves are traveling faster, the time between the P and S waves increases as they radiate away from the epicenter of an earthquake.

Has the EarthQuake Alert™ been expert tested? Yes the EarthQuake Alert™ has been independently tested by reputable seismic institutes worldwide such as
-State University of New York at Buffalo Laboratory of National Center of earthquake
  engineering research USA.
-The Institute For Petroleum Research and Geophysics Israel
-Technical institute of Israel, Haifa, Israel.
-Department of Earthquake Engineering, Bogazici University Turkey

Is this device a new patented technology? Yes the EarthQuake Alert™ is a patented device registered with the United States Patents Office.

Which earthquakes can the Earthquake Alert detect ? The EarthQuake Alert™ is designed to detect moderate to large earthquakes and does not alarm you of minor harmless earthquakes.

Why doesn't the EarthQuake Alert™ detect smaller earthquakes? The EarthQuake Alert™ does not trigger an audible alarm from minor earthquakes because they do not represent any direct danger.

What are the lights for? The lights are used as a visual alert that a minor earthquake is on its way. Lights only alerts do not pose any direct danger.

Will the unit be activated by passing trucks, aeroplanes, slamming doors or windows? The EarthQuake Alert™ utilizes sophisticated electronics which filter all incoming signals and determines whether they are from a real earthquake before activating a warning signal. It should not be triggered by non-seismic noise caused by sources other than an earthquake.

Will the EarthQuake Alert™ activate if it is accidently bumped? No in normal circumstances the unit will not activate when it is accidently knocked or bumped whilst in the activated position.

So there are no false alarms at all with this detector, is that right? The EarthQuake Alert™ utilizes electronic components which are designed to avoid triggering of false alarms. Although it is highly unlikely, just like any other electronics components, this unit can malfunction just like your TV, microwave or refrigerator.

Have you personally tested the EarthQuake Alert™? Yes the EarthQuake Alert™ has succesfully detected many earthquakes of magnitude 5.2 or larger since it's installation on August 2005. Our company situated in Patra, which lies on one of the most active seismic belts in Europe, consistently gets earthquakes of small magnitude happening daily, and larger earthquakes happening regularly. The EarthQuake Alert™ has not triggered any false alarms from these smaller type of earthquakes.

How can you test the unit and know that it's working? The EarthQuake Alert™ performs a self diagnostic test once it is switched on and there is also a test button which can be pressed to verify that the unit is in good working order.

Does the unit require any maintenance? The only maintenance required is the replacement of the batteries annually or as required.
